In this lesson, you will learn how to tell the time in English step by step. You can learn via video, which I have included at the end of this lesson; you can download a pdf file for further practice.

There are two ways to tell the time in English one is straightforward another one is a little bit complicated but don’t worry, I have explained in an easy way so a primary student can learn to tell the time in English.

Way-1: To tell the time in English

In the first method (which is simple), AM and PM are used AM
from 12:01 of the night to 11:59 of the day and PM from 12:00 of day to 12:00 of the night. In this telling time first, we utter hour first then minutes (Hours + Minutes). (For example, 12:30 → It’s twelve-thirty.) this method is that simple.

Way-2: To tell the time in English

In this way of telling the time in English, we pronounce minutes first, then by following Past /To, we put the hour. (Minutes + past /to + hour) (For example, 12:30 → It’s thirty past twelve.) and when (For example 12:40 → It’s twenty to one.)
In this method, instead of using AM and PM, we put

• Morning for 6 AM To 11:59 AM
• Noon or Midday for 12:00 PM
• Afternoon for 12:01 To 05:00 PM
• Evening for 05:01 PM To 08:00 PM
• The night for 08:01 PM To 05:59 AM
• Midnight. for 12:00 AM

One other thing to keep in mind is that in this method, we use Quarte for 15 and a half for 30 instead of saying fifteen and thirty, respectively.
